Caitlin Rook is entering her final semester at Northeastern as a Behavioral Neuroscience major. Her enthusiasm for both arts and sciences was influenced by her mother, an artist, who encouraged her to recognize the connection between the two disciplines. Since taking a photo course at Rhode Island School of Design, she became interested in photography as an art medium. Caitlin was unable to include photography courses in her undergraduate curriculum; therefore, the Venice summer program was an opportunity that she could not pass up. She is confident that there is no better place to study photography than one of the most beautiful and unique cities in the world.
Caitlin currently works in research at the ophthalmology department of Children's Hospital Boston, which has expanded her understanding of vision and perception. Aside from the physiological study of vision, she has always been fascinated by the diversity in people's perceptions of their surroundings.
As a student in the NEU Photo Venice program, Caitlin anticipates improving her photography skills while benefiting from the unique experience of living in a foreign country. Caitlin is thrilled to have the opportunity to study photography abroad, and is sure it will be an experience she will never forget.
